Sorry for the hiatus, I moved back to Singapore

Sep 11, 2017

Yes, sadly, I am done with Shanghai. I officially moved back to Singapore with Lisa on the 30th of July 2017, after an 11 years stay in Shanghai.

Since then, Lisa and I have been adapting to the new environment and we have been sorting out her Visa issues as there was a little panic moment when she got stopped at customs and was given only a 7 day visit pass. Thankfully, that has been sorted out quite smoothly, and she is on her way to getting a long term visit pass.

We also brought 4 of our 6 cats over from Shanghai! The other 2 have parted ways to live with my mother in law in Hubei, whilst the 4, now Singaporean cats, had to undergo a 30 day quarantine in Singapore before being released.

We visited them nearly every day at the Sembawang Animal Quarantine Center. Thankfully, the facilities were really clean and decent, the staff, extremely friendly and helpful.

I still feel quite amazed that I had gotten my 4 cats over from Shanghai without using an agent.

So, if you have been following me on Instagram, you would have seen that since coming back, I have been indulging myself in a lot of Singaporean food. Even until now at the time of writing, I have not been to a western restaurant yet!

The reason is because there are so many choices right around the corner of where I live; So much cheap and tasty local food. I haven’t had the urge to visit a ‘proper restaurant’ yet.

Ok so what is going to happen to this blog?

The Shanghai Kid blog will live on, internationally. I have recruited a couple of good friends whom I frequently dine with to write about the Shanghai food scene for the blog. They will also represent me for any tastings if required. That said, if you are interested in being a contributor, shoot me an email with an introduction of yourself!

Meanwhile, I myself will be writing about Singapore and my travels, perhaps eventually Melbourne, which is where I intend to move to.

The food content for Singapore will likely be more on local cheaper food, since eating in restaurants here is more expensive than in Shanghai.

Literally nobody knows who I am in Singapore hence I gotta start my blogger identity from scratch (almost) again. Let’s see how it goes.

So that’s that. If you are reading this article, I thank you for it, because it means you do give a sh*t about the blog and I. I will continue to strive to put out good and honest content, this time, spreading my wings a little bit around the globe.
