The reportedly best Meixcan on the south side is at Taqueria Cruz, a small takeout-like shop with a couple of tables outside, shared with the other eateries. My experience was that the tacos were decent, but very lean on the fillings for their price.
I had the garlic shrimp and ono-fish taco combo it came with rice and refried beans.
The shrimp were succulent and tasty, The fish, unfortunately was quite forgettable. It didn’t taste bad, but it certainly wasn’t memorable.
The chips and guacamole was incredible though and were gobbled up quickly whilst waiting for our tacos.
My brother had a Ono fish burrito and devoured that quickly, so it must’ve been good.
The beef in the carne asada tacos were quite dry and came in small diced cubes. Tender slices would’ve been much better.
Just beside Taqueria Cruz is a shop specialising in fish and chips. I see alot of people ordering that here, which hints it might be quite good, so it is worth trying. Unfortunately, I didn’t manage to fit that into my itinerary.
All in all, it’s not bad, especially the chips and guac and garlic shrimp. I think for the fish, there needed to be a bit more fish for the meat to stand out more.
Taqueria Cruz is worth trying, but not raving for.
